“I would say that Raffles is a very good training place for a student with a keen interest of being a fashion designer. That means you are already focused on wanting to be a fashion designer. And not just interested in fashion generally. Because the school is really a lot more focused about – that’s my opinion – techniques. So you are essentially trained to become a designer.” - Sven Tan

I have great reverence for visionaries such as director Tim Burton, photographer David Lachapelle, as well as fashion designers Hedi Slimane and Alexander McQueen. Jonathan Seow
I like fashion for the fact that it is something that can affect one’s mental and physical state most directly. And for subject matter, I am most intrigued by human beings; which also explains my love of clothes, as they are men’s best accompaniment, trapping the very essence of every human being. Clothes evoke certain moods and collectively, they form the ambience of different times and periods, helping us to archive what’s in the past and as a form of cultural study and inspiration for generations to come. - Jonathan Seow

"Raffles has been supporting in marketing boost and marketing other post graduates. They have been helping me to by giving me a lot of recommendations and references. Raffles has shaped me into a Fashion Designer with a very strong foundation. As a fashion designer we don't just design, sketch or draw, but we need to know the basics on how to create the garments from zero. I learned a lot from the lecturers, especially the ever dedicated Mr Joe Spinelli." - Diana Widjyanto

Brett Cameron
More
Brett Cameron
Brett Cameron is the creative director of Kingsmen Exhibits Pte Ltd. He has more than two decades of experience as a qualified interior, exhibition and museum designer. He has also spent 14 years working in the Asian region. Brett has led his team of designers in winning numerous awards, including the Singapore Design Awards (Sda) and the President’s design award for Design of the Year. He has designed and executed projects spanning the globe and in doing so has learnt to appreciate the nuances of global demands versus local expectations. Brett Cameron’s advice for emerging designers: “Designing is a lifelong journey and unlike other vocations, it often takes longer to become an established designer and to reap the financial rewards. The variables that define the qualities of a designer are diverse and often difficult to identify. However, once a designer achieves a good reputation and can confidently present his or her own personal brand to the marketplace, and that brand has an identifiable commercial significance, then there is greater success and opportunities to be enjoyed.”

Afton Chen
Afton Chen
Afton found joy in desigining at an early age. She spent part of her childhood in Kaohsiung (Taiwan) and had fond memories of the school she attended where her creativity was ignited when designing costumes for various school projects and skits. One of her favourite childhood past-times was to make clothes for dolls out of scraps of fabrics, squares of handkerchiefs and her mom's scarves. She always knew that "fashion" was what she would be doing. There is no second choice, no "buts" and "what ifs". Reckless? That has been the spirit that contributes to the growing popularity of her designs.
